A pic of the cross being processed in (having trouble seeing it? Exactly!)
Here's a closer view (note the difference between this glass, see-through, cross-thingy, with the squiggly Jesus, and the actual crucifix over to the right - somehow I'm reminded of that "This or That" video produced by Brian Yamabe a few weeks before the synodical convention :)
So, there you go. As I said tonight in class, I understand the confusion people have regarding this cross, because I don't get it either.

FYI, the crucifer is an alumnus of the campus ministry here at CMU :-) He and I have spoken about the processional cross there too, and all you can really do is shrug. It certainly requires you to have already seen other crucifixes to understand what it means - if you'd never seen one, you'd wonder about it too.
Having been to many, many chapel services in the CSL chapel over many, many years, I was SO delighted and relieved to see a REAL crucifix at the installation service!
Jon,
Definitely shrug-worthy!
Michael,
Exactly! And I was glad to see them use that REAL crucifix for the Gospel Procession during the Service. Great to see you Saturday, if only for a moment!
