President Obama's Statement on 39th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Yesterday, President Obama released the following statement regarding the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade:

As we mark the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we must remember that this Supreme Court decision not only protects a woman’s health and reproductive freedom , but also affirms a broader principle: that government should not intrude on private family matters. I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose and this fundamental constitutional right.

While this is a sensitive and often divisive issue -- no matter what our views, we must stay united in our determination to prevent unintended pregnancies, support pregnant woman and mothers, reduce the need for abortion, encourage healthy relationships, and promote adoption. And as we remember this historic anniversary, we must also continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams.

Here is the statement, revised to reflect reality:

As we mark the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we must remember that this Supreme Court decision not only protects a woman’s health and gives women the right to kill their babies in the name of reproductive freedom, but also affirms a broader principle evil:  that government should not intrude on private family matters protect the defenseless and innocent among us. I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose murder her unborn baby for the sake of convenience and this fundamental constitutional right will continue to pretend as though the Preamble to our Declaration of Independence, which states that all men are created equal and have been endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, had never been written.

While this is a sensitive and often divisive issue -- no matter what our views, we must stay united in our determination to prevent unintended pregnancies, support pregnant woman and mothers, reduce the need for abortion, encourage healthy relationships, and promote adoption. And as we remember this historic anniversary, we must also continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams, except, of course, the 1.2 million daughters and sons who are killed annually by abortion so that they do not interfere with the rights, freedoms, and opportunities of our daughters and sons who should not have to endure the inconvenience of having, and raising, children unless they choose to do so.

A Blessed Lord's Day!

We were blessed this morning to witness our Lord's grace, mercy, and love at work in the washing of water with the Word, as our dear sister, Lexie, was Baptized into Christ.  Lexie was also confirmed and received the Holy Eucharist with us for the first time.  Could there be a more fitting Gospel than the account of our Lord changing the water into wine at the wedding at Cana in Galilee to accompany these marvelous gifts?  A truly remarkable Lord's Day at Peace in Alma!  Some pics:

A Fisktacular Response to a Flawed Video

If you haven't seen this yet, this is a video that went absolutely viral, getting over 11 million hits since being posted just five days ago on January 10. Below this video is a most excellent response by Pastor Fisk of Worldview Everlasting fame. I love all of Pastor Fisk's videos, but I'm pretty sure that this one has moved to the top as my personal all-time favorite. Just perfect!
